EXPERT INSIGHT: DR. ELLENBOGEN DISCUSSES CHEMICAL EXPOSURE AND PARKINSON’S CONNECTION

A new observational study, highlighted in Fox News, suggests that long-term, low-level exposure to a solvent used in industrial and cleaning processes, trichloroethylene (TCE), may contribute to raising the risk of Parkinson’s disease.

Researchers looked at data from over 222,000 individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s and more than 1.1 million controls, evaluating their residential proximity to TCE-emitting facilities.

Dr. Aaron Ellenbogen, movement disorders neurologist at MIND, shared insights with Fox News regarding the potential link. He stated that, “It is not clear that the chemicals directly cause Parkinson’s disease, but it may reflect a complex interplay between environmental exposure and a genetic predisposition of susceptibility[…]” Dr. Ellenbogen emphasized the importance of viewing such environmental exposures in the context of genetic predisposition and other factors.

As research advances, input from neurologists like Dr. Ellenbogen helps bridge between scientific findings and real-world guidance for patients at MIND.
