Diagnostics & Imaging

Convenient. Patient-oriented. Supervised by board-certified neurologists.

Welcome to the MIND Diagnostic & Imaging Center. In order to accurately diagnose, understand and manage a patient’s condition, neurologists often must use special diagnostic and imaging tools. MIND is proud to provide a state of the art imaging facility onsite in our Farmington Hills office, while additional diagnostic testing is available at all three of our offices.

Conducted by physicians and trained staff, our full range of testing services is available to patients being treated at MIND. We also serve anyone who needs MRI imaging as requested by their physician. These studies can be done conveniently in our comfortable, easy to access outpatient office setting.

MIND’s Diagnostic Services

MIND’s Diagnostic Services are supervised by Dr. Eric Biondo-Savin, DO, who is multiple Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology, Neuroradiology and Physical Therapy; and Dr. Steven I. Seidman, who is multiple Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Neuroradiology.
If your diagnostic testing appointment has been pushed back or canceled because of limited outpatient services at your medical facility, but you still need results promptly, MIND stands ready to assist.
Diagnostic procedures available at MIND, as directed by your MIND neurologist or other health care providers, include:

  • OCT
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of the retina, the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye. With OCT, each of the retina’s layers can be seen, allowing a specialist to map and measure their thickness, as well as the thickness of optic nerve. This helps with early detection, diagnosis and treatment guidance of retinal and optic nerve conditions that include glaucoma, macular issues, diabetes-related issues and tumors of the retina.
This non-invasive examination does not require the injection of dyes or use of eyedrops. No special preparation is required.
      • EEG

The EEG, which measures the electrical activity of the brain, can be used to diagnose seizures, tumors or delayed development, and is used in evaluation of conditions that include headaches, dizziness and fainting, concussions and traumatic brain injuries, and memory loss and dementias, including Alzheimer’s disease.

The examination typically takes about an hour and patients should make sure their hair is clean and free of oils and not wear any extensions or netting. The MIND staff will explain any other requirements at the time of appointment.

MIND has earned the status of Accredited EEG Laboratory. There are only eight Accredited EEG Labs in Michigan and MIND is the only private practice to achieve this recognition.

This accreditation distinguishes MIND from other regional and local labs and reinforces MIND’s reputation for integrity in its work:

      • Lab and technologists to demonstrate independent, objective verification of quality testing that are endorsed by the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS) and ASET – The Neurodiagnostic Society
      • Lab has demonstrated they can produce EEG’s interpretable by competent physicians anywhere
      • Signifies high-quality testing to our colleagues and patients
      • MRI
Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, is the most advanced imaging technology available. It allows your doctor to see inside the body without x-rays or surgery. MRI uses harmless magnetic and radio frequency waves to examine muscles, fat and internal organs. It produces clear and extremely detailed pictures, or images, that assist your doctor in making a more complete diagnosis.
MRIs of interest to neurologists can reveal tumors, strokes, traumatic injuries, aneurysms of cerebral vessels and spinal cord issues. Additionally, on prescription, we can also perform MRIs of the head and shoulder, the abdomen, joints and the full spine for other health care providers.
While there is no exposure to x-ray or other forms of potentially harmful radiation, there are some medical conditions that preclude having an MRI performed. The MIND staff will screen these conditions with you when making your appointment.
There are no special diet or preparation requirements for this test. However, before your test you will be asked to fill out a safety screening form and will consult with the technician before you enter the MRI room.
      • EMG
THE EMG measures the conduction potential of nerves, as well as the electrical activity response of muscles to the nerve cells that control them.  The EMG helps neurologists diagnose patients with disorders of the nerves and muscles, including neuropathy, tingling and numbness, muscle pain or weakness, sciatica and other neuromuscular disorders. Conditions studied through EMG include muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS-Lou Gehrig’s disease), herniated disks and carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition to static testing, the EMG includes minimally invasive testing with a small needle. The examination, conducted by a physician or specially trained technician, typically takes up to one hour and there is no special preparation required except to make sure the skin is free of lotions, oils or creams.

      WHY CHOOSE MIND FOR MRI?

      • Our two, wide bore MRI machines, accommodate larger patients and those uncomfortable or uneasy in smaller spaces.
      • New AirRecon DL software allows shorter scan times with higher quality imaging.
      • We are one of the only sites in southeast Michigan that performs quiet scans, eliminating anxiety brought on by the noises of a typical MRI.
      • Evening and Saturday appointments are available with easy access and convenient parking. We work closely with primary care doctors and other specialists to communicate test results.
